Hostgator Hosting Service - I’ve been hosting websites at Hostgator long before I started this website and I still run a couple of websites with them at current time. With its quality service, the hosting company is growing fast and was named top in Texas for the recent Inc 5000 Awards.

How to Activate 3G on your Mobile in Pakistan

First thing you need to have is a 3G ready phone. No, not all handsets are 3G ready.

Let’s take Huawei G610 as an example. According to GSM Arena, its network specifications are as following:

  1. 2G Network: GSM 900 / 1800 / 1900 – SIM 1 & SIM 2
  2. 3G Network: HSDPA 900 / 2100 – SIM 1

So its apparent that Huawei G610 is 3G compatible and hence can be used for activating 3G services on the phone.

Activating 3G on Phone

Note: We are using this Android phone running Android 4.3 for this Tutorial.
Go to
  1. Settings
  2. click “More”
  3. Now click on “Mobile Networks”
  4. Now on next screen, click on “Network Mode”
Here you will have to select “WCDMA (preferred) / GSM. This will enable your handset to search for 3G networks as well.

You are all done now, and 3G services will be activated on your phone whenever they will be available.

If your network is providing 3G services in your area then your phone will automatically switch to 3G network, otherwise it will switch to GSM / 2G network in case 3G isn’t covered in any area.

You can also select “WCDMA Only” option to remain on 3G network only, however, this way when there will be no 3G service your signals will disappear and you won’t be able to make/receive calls. Hence it is preferred to use “WCDMA (proffered) / GSM” option only.
Once your phone is connected with 3G network, you can go to Settings->About Phone->Status to see “Mobile Network Type”, which in my case was HSPA.

How to Check if your Mobile Phone is 3G Supported or Not

You can easily check to see if you have a signal on your phone by looking at the signal bar on the top right hand side of your phone. If you have a signal, the bars will be white and you'll know if you have 3G coverage because you'll see a 3G icon next to the signal bar.
Typically, carriers "bake" indicators that show up in the notifica
tion bar of most smartphones. I see a "3G","4G" or "4G LTE" in my status bar if my mobile data is turned on and I am NOT connected to Wi-Fi.
Most phones are designed to automatically connect to a Wi-Fi network when available, overriding a mobile data connection. And if you own such a phone then you need to enable 3G before you can enjoy the perks of newly born 3G service in Pakistan.
How can I check if my handset is compatible with 3G?
Go into your phone’s network settings and see if it has options to enable any of the below listed features – if it does then your phone is 3G supported:
  1. 2G= Edge
  2. 3G=HSPA
  3. 4G=HSPA+
  4. 4G with LTE at bottom =LTE
To enable 3G, select any of the following in the “Network Settings” or “Mobile Networks” on 3G supported handsets :
  • GSM/WCDMA (auto) mode
  • 2G + 3G mode
  • GSM / UMTS mode
  • Dual Mode
